More Than New Paint
This magnificent historic landmark building in Colorado Springs was in dire need of some color and character to complement its intrinsic beauty. We removed the 8” aluminum siding and installed 4” lap siding as it originally had, then the owner chose a bold color palette to remain true to the Painted Lady style of finish common to many of the homes in the neighborhood from the same era.
The carriage house offered me a chance to do my absolute favorite thing: re-purpose some materials from demolition and make them into an interesting and beautiful new piece! I took old siding from the garage and built custom shutters for the windows, the giant timber doors were just waiting to be turned inside out to reveal all their character and shape. With just a couple simple touches, the building once ignored becomes a part of the backyard’s décor!
