Recording Studio to Studio Apartment
This space above a three car garage was being used by the owner as a recording studio prior to the finish; we converted it into a studio apartment with a rustic meets modern, Neo-Bohemian mood and full-size amenities despite many head height challenges! We also used a pile of old fence pickets and boards to trim the walls and ceilings, and to build a full-length LED up-and-down lit fixture that adds tons of light, color and character to the room.
By placing low items in low ceiling areas and making the closet front-facing, an apartment with under 400 square feet of “clear” floor area still has a full bath, full kitchen including dishwasher, desk/office area, laundry, closet space equal to a normal 8’ closet and ample room for a king size bed, couch, and 60” TV! We also kept access available to closed areas to use every inch for storage and installed some thick barn doors for the entry through the garage. It turned out to be a comfortable, functional living space and it looks great too!
